Having won all the tournaments they participated in the last season, VakıfBank Sports Club met with the media at the opening of the new season. VakıfBank General Manager and Sports Club President Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih, board members, technical staff and athletes attended the event at VakıfBank Spor Sarayı.

The last Turkish, European and World Champion VakıfBank met with the media members at the opening of the new season. The yellow-blacks attended the ceremony at VakıfBank Spor Sarayı as a full-team including the new transfers. Also, The Legendary Captain Melis Gürkaynak was honored at the ceremony.

Emphasizing the year 2023, when the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey will be celebrated, Üstünsalih said: “2023 is a very valuable year for our country and nation. Our greatest wish is to see the victories of these successful women of the Republic of Turkey on the world stage, in this special year in which we celebrate the 100th anniversary of our Republic. I think there is nothing that can symbolize the achievements of our republic better than Turkish women. The young, bright, and successful women you see here today will also do their best to represent Turkish women, the Republic of Turkey, and set an example for our young girls this season.

VakıfBank Sports Club General Manager Neslihan Demir Güler stated in her speech that VakıfBank's goal in the new season is to raise trophies and said: "The athletes in this squad had great victories in their young ages, but at the moment we only dream of new glories because VakıfBank culture requires it”
Legendary Captain Melis Gürkaynak was honored
At the press conference, a special event was held for VakıfBank's Legendary Captain Melis Gürkaynak, who ended her professional sports career at the end of last season and was appointed as the Youth Team Manager. Melis Gürkaynak's jersey was hung at VakıfBank Spor Sarayı.
Gabi Guimaraes announced as the new captain of VakıfBank
Melis Gürkaynak mentioned that Brazilian star Gabi will be the team captain for the new season and said: “I am gladly leaving the captain's task to Gabi. Gabi is a very special star who can be the best captain for this team with her character, athlete mentality, and talent.”
Also, at the meeting, VakıfBank's new transfers met with the media for the first time in yellow-black jerseys and it was announced that Melis Gürkaynak's number 8 jersey will be worn by VakıfBank's new star Paola Egonu in the new season.
VakıfBank Sports Club will play the first official match of the 2022-2023 season with the Turkish Super Cup game. The yellow-blacks will aim to start the season with a trophy with the Fenerbahçe Opet encounter in the match on October 29.
